Defining and understanding “impact” is a central consideration for any impact investor. It’s also an evolving field. The field has entertained a host of discussions and debates regarding how performance frameworks should be applied to startup investments, and what specific metrics should be used by fund managers to assess the impact they make on alleviating poverty and increasing sustainable through their investments.
Village Capital is one of the most active early-stage impact investors, and we have a vision for future where business creates equity and long-term prosperity. In the past decade we’ve directly supported more than 1,000 entrepreneurs and facilitated seed capital into more than 100 graduates of our programs. We are seeking an Impact Metrics Analyst to help us tell the story of the impact of those entrepreneur - both internally and externally.
The Impact Metrics Analyst will be responsible for the capture, organization, and reporting of Village Capital’s impact, tracking both the efficacy of the program in supporting entrepreneurs and the subsequent impact those entrepreneurs have in addressing problems in economic empowerment and resource sustainability. The Analyst will work across the Village Capital team to set standards in the practice of establishing and gathering data regarding organizational impact, as well as the development of impact projections for partners.
The Analyst will also coordinate with the Communications Team to support earned and owned media with clear statistics on the growth of Village Capital alumni, as well as their subsequent social or environmental impact. Finally, the Analyst will also lead Village Capital engagement with current performance metrics evaluations, including ongoing coordination with the Global Accelerator Learning Initiative (GALI).
The Impact Metrics Analyst must have strong analytical skills, the ability to creatively solve problems, and a self-starter mentality. This role is responsible for creating, developing, and maintaining key metrics database. These duties include, but are not limited to:
Metrics Partnership Support – Maintaining and continuing to develop the ongoing research collaboration between Village Capital and GALI. Evaluating opportunities to develop new research projects to further prove the efficacy of the Village Capital model in supporting entrepreneurs and communicating impact toward issues of economic empowerment or resource sustainability.
Design and Capture – Defining relevant data points, sending out impact measurement questionnaires, and designing a targeted outreach strategy to ensure a 70%+ capture rate of impact metrics for Village Capital alumni.
Organization – Recording and organizing all captured data in Salesforce or a suitable repository that allows Village Capital team members to easily search for specific queries associated with funders, programs, sectors, regions, or entrepreneurs of specific backgrounds.
Framework Development and Analysis - Developing a clear framework of impact metrics across a diverse range of economic and environmental issues and analyzing results from entrepreneur surveys to note progress against various issue areas.
Fundraising Support – Reviewing and, in some cases, helping to structure specific, measurable, attainable, and realistic goals for social and/or environmental impact in partnerships.
Communications Support – Supporting the Communications Team in the development of compelling narratives around impact achieved by Village Capital directly as well as through Village Capital’s entrepreneurs.
Internal – Designing, organizing, compiling, and presenting internal reports on Village Capital entrepreneur progress as it relates to growth of their own companies as well as social and environmental impact.
Board – Assisting the Managing Director in the development of impact reports for the Board.
External – Developing and presenting customized reports for funder review in partnership with Village Capital team members. Analyzing and interpreting GALI reports for integration into Village Capital’s own metrics database.
1 – 3 years of proven working experience as a data analyst or in metrics and evaluation;
Familiarity with existing impact metrics libraries and approaches such as IRIS, GIIRS, etc. strongly preferred
Advanced Excel skills required (including proficiency with creation and use of pivot tables);
Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy;
Adept at queries, report writing, and presenting findings in both prose and graphics;
Bachelor’s Degree required.
